Background: Writer Karen Tina Harrison has 20 years’ experience as an editor, journalist, copywriter and author. She has been a senior magazine editor for Sassy and a newspaper reporter for the New York Post. K.T.’s numerous nonfiction books include a best-selling children’s title, The Ultimate Hair Guide. She has published short stories and sold several screenplays, all love stories. Her freelance reporting beats reflect her interests in travel, food and wine, beauty and spas, and horse racing.

About Writing: “I relish the challenge of ferreting out the truth and then making the story entertaining. Writing has always been something I could do. In first grade, my class wrote thank-you notes to the sixth-graders who’d put on a show. I remember my teacher picking me up and twirling me around because I’d used the word ‘wonderful.’ I recall thinking, 'That was easy!' Today, I support myself with my pen. I balance the glamorous but lower-paying assignments with business-oriented promotional writing."
Education: K.T. holds a B.A. from Barnard College of Columbia University, an M.A. from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and a certificate from the Sorbonne.
Organizations: K.T. is a member of the screenwriters’ union, the Writers’ Guild of America East.
It’s Personal: K.T. lives in New York City with her husband, Dr. Richard Schiffer, a psychotherapist who moonlights as a jazz composer. They share passions for travel, jazz clubs, ethnic food, working out, scuba diving, and Thoroughbred racing. Both self-employed, they travel regularly; New Mexico, Montreal, Quebec, Miami and the Riviera Maya are repeat destinations. K.T. and Richard’s beloved little boys—Otis, 21, and Mingus, 6—are Siamese cats.
