Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy for Romantics
The same combination that makes skiing in France so irresistible great food, good wine, terrific slopes lures skiers to Italy, too. To ski? In Italy? Do Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn ring a bell?Italy encompasses more of the Alps than any other country. And it should come as no surprise that the XX Olympic Winter Games were held in Turin (February 10-26, 2006).
The Dolomite mountains are home to the sophisticated and elegant city of Cortina D'Ampezzo. Slopes are paradise for advanced as well as intermediate skiers, and there are trails for cross-country enthusiasts. Restaurants satisfy those who savor homemade pasta and risotto. Discos do exist, but dining out is nightlife enough for most.
Celebrities and connoisseurs alike come here to ski and eat and enjoy. Where they're most likely to stay: the Miramonti Majestic Grand Hotel, former holiday residence of the Hapsburg dynasty, and as regal as the name implies.
Located on the central square, Hotel Ancora provides a warm welcome.
