The goal of Colonial Williamsburg’s Rare Animal Breeds program is to preserve genetic diversity in livestock. Throughout the Historic Area, visitors will encounter fenced-in animals such as Red Devon cows and Leicester Longwool sheep. Several breeds represent animals that likely were present in Williamsburg during the 18th century.

Costumed livestock interpreters show guests how cows were milked and sheep sheared in Colonial Williamsburg, Va during the 18th century.

Note: Colonial Williamsburg, Va is a very popular family and school-trip destination, so it is usually filled with children.
