Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe in a Nutshell:
Spectacular views of the Columbia River and the magnificent cliffs jutting beside it are what put Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe on the map.

This secluded resort two and a half hours east of Seattle is nestled in the hills 900 feet above the meandering waterway.

The isolated property comprises the inn, the Cave B vineyards and tasting room, and Tendrils, a locally renowned restaurant. Guests can hike down to the river, swim in the outdoor heated pool, or simply enjoy the breathtaking view with a glass of estate wine.

Guest Rooms at Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe :

Cave B Inn has 30 rooms and guest houses. Three suites, including the honeymoon suite, are in the main building, which also houses the lobby and restaurant, while the rest are in separate buildings that dot the craggy terrain.

The fifteen Cliffehouses and twelve Cavern Rooms, built of gray stone with curved roofs, were designed to look as if they arise out of the ground. Cliffehouses have fireplaces, and most rooms have terraces or balconies with gorgeous views of the river.

Dining at Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe :
Cave B Inn’s restaurant, Tendrils, specializes in "sustainable regional cuisine," local fare made from humanely raised livestock and organic ingredients. Northwest chowder, for example, is a seasonal fish stew of potatoes, leeks, bacon, sweet corn, tarragon, and cream. Roasted breast of local pheasant is served with gnocchi and spinach.

In addition to a la carte dining, the chef offers a six-course tasting menu with wine pairings and a meatless Harvest Foods of the Pacific Northwest menu nightly. Guests can opt for a box breakfast and lunch, and food and bar service is available at the pool.

Weddings and Romantic Amenities at Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe :
The resort hosts weddings throughout the property, especially on the hills overlooking the river and the piazza, a pleasant, grassy area encircled by trellises.

Catering services must be provided by the inn, but for services such as music and flowers, couples are welcome to bring in vendors or work with those the inn recommends. While Cave B Inn does not offer a formal honeymoon package, the staff will work with couples to add customized touches such as massages and intimate dinners.

Spa and Swimming Pools at Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe :
Cave B Inn has a heated outdoor swimming pool set amidst the rocky terrain, overlooking the river. The Spa at Sagecliffe offers massages, facials including a hot and cold stone facial, body treatments such as hot stone scrubs, and hair and nail services. Treatments include Swedish and hot stone massages for couples and men’s manicures and pedicures.
Activities at Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe:
Activities at Cave B Inn include hiking; there’s a rigorous hike 900 feet down to the shores of the Columbia River; tastings of Cave B wines made with grapes grown onsite; golf at a driving range; bike rentals; tours of local vineyards; boating and fishing on the river; outdoor concerts at the amphitheater next door; and cultural events such as guest speakers. The resort hosts a Harvest Festival in the fall that allows guests to participate in the winemaking process.
Nearby Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe :
Cave B Inn is two and a half hours from Seattle and 40 minutes from the ranching and college town of Ellensburg. The Gorge Amphitheater, an outdoor venue that hosts well-known music acts, is adjacent to the property. Guests can attend concerts or enjoy the music from their own balconies.

Several local wineries are nearby, as is the Gingko Petrified Forest and Wanapum Recreational Area, a 7,500-acre state park that offers hiking, picnicking, and boating.

What Could be Improved at Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe:
Although the staff at Cave B Inn is cheerful and appears to mean well, service tends to be spotty. On our visit, the bellman never arrived to help bring in our luggage from the car (he called twenty minutes later to apologize and explain that he’d gotten busy), water glasses weren’t refilled at dinner without asking, and getting the front desk to answer required two phone calls. In general, employees were helpful when asked, but were not proactive in seeing to guests’ needs.
Is Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe Right for You?:
The views from Cave B Inn are dramatic and hauntingly beautiful, and some may find this terrain of central Washington stark and even alien. Rocky hills are covered with sagebrush, with no green trees, colorful flowers, or other landscaping aside from the vineyards and vegetable gardens.

The resort is truly isolated, making it ideal for couples seeking a true getaway. But if they aren’t devotees of nature in its rawest form or wine lovers, they may feel limited by the lack of nightlife, only one restaurant onsite, and the general feeling of solitude.
