Romantic Hotels in Park City, Utah
Top spots for couples in Deer Valley and Beyond

By Susan Breslow Sardone, About.com

A haven for skiers, fresh air lovers, and couples who prefer the mountains to the beach, Park City, Utah is one of the most accessible ski resorts in America.

A half-hour drive from Salt Lake City airport (search for a flight), Park City consists of three different ranges: Park City, the Canyons, and Deer Valley Resort (where the most romantic resorts for couples are located). Offering a multitude of activities in both summer and winter, Park City stands at 6,900 feet, which is easier on the lungs than taller mountains for visitors unaccustomed to high altitudes. These are among the top lodgings for lovers.

1. Stein Eriksen Lodge

While winter athletes collect gold medals, Stein Eriksen Lodge collects lodging awards. Utah’s most decorated property, the AAA Five Diamond, Mobil Four Star resort was ranked no. 1 among “Top 50 Ski Hotels” in Condé Nast Traveler's "Best Places To Ski & Stay in North America" feature. Since opening in 1982, the lodge has become known for its striking architecture and extensive facilities. On the down side, some visitors claim rooms could use a refresh and object to upsells at check-in. Rooms feature wi-fi, TV and DVD player, Molton Brown bath toiletries, and a jetted bathtub. Suites add gourmet kitchens, spacious living rooms, wood-burning fireplaces made of stone, and separate master bedrooms.

2. Silver Baron Lodge

Ideal for skiers, Silver Baron Lodge stands just 200 yards from Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park lifts. The sleigh beds, gas fireplaces, and modern bathrooms are what romantics will find most appealing. Lodgings include kitchens ready to cook in, washing machines, and dryers. The outdoor pool and hot tub are heated year-round.

3. Chateaux at Silver Lake

As a condo hotel, the Chateaux at Silver Lake offers guests the choice of staying in a hotel room or an apartment-like suite furnished with a fully equipped kitchen. Couples on a honeymoon or romantic getaway may find dining on the French cuisine served in the hotel restaurant makes a visit feel more like a vacation and less like home. Both lodgings feature gas fireplaces, wet bar, feather bed, and heated towel warmers in the bathroom (also good for drying snow-wet gear). The hotel's outdoor pool and hot tub are heated year round, which can make for an invigorating dip when snow surrounds the property. A day spa is on the premises.

4. Sundance Resort

A unique haven surrounded by 6,000 wilderness acres, Sundance Resort opened in 1969 as the vision of actor and environmental conservationist Robert Redford. Architecture that complements the mountain scenery, award-winning cuisine, and uniquely furnished lodgings make this a place couples covet. In 2007 Sundance Resort placed second in Conde Nast Traveler's Readers’ Choice Award of Top 50 United States Resorts. It was also named one of the top three hotels for food by the same magazine. Originated by Redford and the resort to honor independent films, the Sundance Film Festival is held in Park City every January.

5. Goldener Hirsch Inn

Standing mid-mountain in Deer Valley Resort's Silver Lake area, Goldener Hirsch Inn evokes the Alpine ski lodges of Europe and has ski-in, ski-out convenience. Condé Nast Traveler calls it the no. 2 small hotel in America. Elegant and traditional, Goldener Hirsch Inn has only 20 rooms and suites, which cosset guests in thick down comforters and fine linens over king-size feather beds. Hand-painted furniture imported from Europe adds to the charm of this lodging. Indoor and outdoor hot tubs soothe and relax. Wi-fi and iHome clock radios add a necessary modern touch. The restaurant earned AAA Four Diamonds, but lovers may find it even more sensual to fete each other with fondues. Note to summer visitors: The Inn is not air-conditioned.

6. Washington School Inn

Inside a schoolhouse originally built in 1889, the Washington School Inn is listed on the National Historic Register. It was converted into lodgings in 1984. Decorated in the quaint and flowery style so popular with bed and breakfasts, the childfree inn prides itself on serving gourmet morning meals. Specialties include brioche stuffed French toast and savory salmon roulade. For dinner, guests can choose from among the 50-plus restaurants within a ten-block walk. Park City Mountain Resorts' town ski lift is a two minute downhill walk from the inn and the town's complimentary shuttle is also steps away.
