Before our honeymoon, a friend who had recently stayed at Amanyara warned me that the food was awful. Going with those low expectations, I found the food to be okay.
The resort—like all of the island—relies on semi-weekly deliveries of food. There’s no local produce on the island. In fact, the only food that is local is conch and seasonal lobster.
We enjoyed our dinners, though they were on the bland side. One night, I was served the wrong fish special (I ordered grouper. They brought snapper.) Our least favorite foods were the pizza that tasted like it had a cardboard crust and a room service burger that was greasy, and not in a good way.
I had the opportunity to speak with the chef, who told me that a change to the menu was under way. He plans to add more tapas-style snacks to the daytime menu like hummus and bruschetta. I’m sure guests will find that a welcome change.
