While many hotels succeed in attaining this prestigious award year after year, there have been a few changes since 2003: The Mandarin Oriental Hotel San Francisco was demoted to Four-Star status, while Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, a longtime celebrity favorite, moved up a notch, to Five Stars. Vermont's Tall Timbers slid off the Five-Star list and doesn't show up on the 2004 Four-Star list, either. And South Carolina gained its first Five-Star winner, Woodlands Inn & Resort. In New York, Trump International Hotel & Tower slumped from Five Stars to Four, while The Ritz-Carlton, New York, Central Park ascended to the top of the list.
