"In the 1970s, Abba was as popular as The Beatles," said our tour guide in an attempt to explain why the city of Stockholm would support a huge multi-story museum to catalog the group's music and fashion.

"Maybe here," replied a gimlet-eyed visitor, dubious that that the pop group known for combining infectious melodies with insipid lyrics should merit such a shrine.

Yet the high-tech Abba Museum (warning: turn down your computer speakers before clicking) may even win over non-fans with its interactive multimedia exhibits.

Visitors to the Abba museum -- scheduled to open in 2011 or 2012.-- will be able to take the "stage," record songs as if they're part of Abba, and spend as much or as little time as they like browsing band memorabilia and Abba's original recording studio.
