In a Nutshell:

From the West End performers belting Broadway’s best at dinner to the cricket and soccer…pardon, football…games on every bar TV, Buccament Bay Resort is a splash of merrie olde England in your tropical rum punch. This British-owned all-inclusive is the largest resort on St. Vincent. Its laid-back demeanor is well suited to the sleepy island, which is sister to the more glamorous Grenadines to the north. Plans to expand when a new airport is built may mar the mellow, but until then, count on fine food, casual comfort, and classy décor.

Guest Rooms:

Private villas with white furnishings and exquisite rock-floor showers line Buccament Bay’s twisting walkways. Nearly all boast an outdoor deck and plunge pool, though the skinny on your dip is that you’re not well concealed; think twice before playing married merfolk with your beau! Coveted beach-front villas suffer similarly; while prime for the views, the sights, sounds, and beach grill smells may slip into your cottage like an encroaching tide. Plus, the resort is building a hotel on a distant hill – a hint of crowds to come when the airport is done.

Dining:

Tasty fare at Buccament Bay hits the spot – and a whole lot of them - with a sushi bar, ice cream parlor, beach grill, theme-night buffet, poolside restaurant, and Indian cuisine. Dinner at the al fresco Bay Beach Club comes with West End stars who croon everything from “Godspell” to “Grease” - romantic if you’re a supper club kind of couple, kitschy if not (late weekend nights might bring a local soca band for island jams). If food is your fave part of all-inclusive stays, you’ll be content. For the ravenous, more is on the way, with plans for a steakhouse, Italian eatery, and a Trader Vic chain restaurant to come.

Destination Weddings:

Movie buffs may be particularly pleased to tie the knot in the very waters the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was filmed. Buccament Bay (and its UK-based wedding coordinator) present a range of destination wedding packages, including one on the resort’s special swashbuckling galleon ship, The Pearl. Cakes, canapés, steel drum bands, photographers, and spa treatments are among the possible add-ons for your Big Day.

Honeymoons/Romance Packages:

Buccament Bay Resort offers a simple honeymoon package that comes free with a seven-night stay. Sip in-room champagne, have breakfast in bed, dinner on the beach, and spa discounts. To upgrade the celebration, sign up for a premium package that includes the above plus private airport transfers, spa treatments, and special in-room amenities. Want to say “I Do” all over again? Renew your vows in a sweet ceremony on the beach. Customization is welcome.

Activities:

Indulge in an array of tropical paradise adventures! Lounge by the pool, try watersports, snag a couples massage at the spa, or set sail on a sunset cruise leaving right from the resort’s beach (live saxophonist and hors d'oeuvres included). Are you a budding American Idol? Stop in at Buccament Bay’s Harlequin Performing Arts Academy, where stage stars will teach you to sing and dance. Want a better backhand? Train during a sweaty set at Aussie pro Pat Cash’s on-site Tennis academy. If you prefer cricket or football, full-sized pitches are planned.

Nearby in the Caribbean:

Consisting of 32 islands and cays (coral-reef islands), St. Vincent and the Grenadines are a divine destination for adventuresome duos. Certified divers can go deep on excursions to shipwrecks, caves, aquatic creatures, and coral. Pairs who prefer to stay above water can nab a catamaran or speed boat excursion to swim with green turtles in the Tobago cays or sunbathe on the quiet island of Mayreau. The dynamic island also boasts whale-watching, volcano-hiking, and nature tours through bamboo groves and waterfalls.

What You Should Know Before You Go:

Buccament Bay is a very pretty resort but two things might give passionate and demonstrative lovers pause: The first is the privacy issue described above. Even the couples’ massage is performed outdoors on a deck visible to other villas. Yes, there are curtains, but who knows which way the wind may blow! Secondly, ambitious expansion plans – the hotel, more villas - suggest this sweet, secluded spot could get a bit crowded when capacity hits max.

The Vibe:

Casual and carefree, Buccament Bay is for low-maintenance lovers who wave their umbrella-ed cocktails to pretension and enjoy vegging out. The all-age resort tends to skew mature, though families – and yes, there are kids here - can tuck the tots away at the on-site day camp. While very well styled and fashionably furnished, the resort doesn’t quite hit a luxury note. Instead, like a catchy show-tune harmony, it strikes a chord with the many faces and palates of the well-heeled everyman.
