1. BVI: Peter Island Resort & Spa

A haven for sailors and first mates, Peter Island Resort & Spa in the British Virgin Islands welcomed the Sports Illustrated swimsuit models, photographers, and crew in 2011. Encompassing 1,800 acres, the private island is the largest in the British Virgin Islands chain in the Caribbean.

Peter Island Resort draws mostly couples and is best suited to active twosomes. The resort’s most outstanding attribute is its variety of recreation. Couples can hike, bike, sail, windsurf, snorkel, and swim in the ocean or pool. After dinner, there’s not much to divert visitors' attention except Caribbean rum, the brilliant night sky, and night-blooming jasmine, the scent of romance.

2. Maui, Hawaii: Grand Wailea

No wonder the Sports Illustrated models and team chose Maui's Grand Wailea for their 2011 photo shoot. It's located on gorgeous Wailea Beach, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and posing on the golden sands.

The vast hotel features a theatrical open-air lobby with pools and fountains and one of the world's best spas. It also contains $50 million of artwork, including Picassos, Warhols, and Botero’s whimsical statues of ample men and women that make even the most curvaceous models look undernourished when standing adjacent. Everything here is top of the line: the buildings and grounds, gorgeous gardens, restaurants, rooms, and the beach.

3. Fiji: Turtle Island Resort

Faraway Fiji, with its 300 islands, drew the Sports Illustrated swimsuit models et al to the country's highly rated Turtle Island Resort in 2011. The property was last in the news when it served as the setting for a Today Show Wedding honeymoon. Turtle Island Resort is an exotic, tropical, all-inclusive composed of thatched cottages beside clear blue-green waters. It was also the setting for the Blue Lagoon films.

Consider a perfect location for a romantic getaway, Turtle Island has hosted several celebrities on their honeymoons, including Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Trista & Ryan of 2003's The Bachelorette; the latter two remain married to one another.

4. California: Montage Laguna Beach

The only domestic US destination on the list of locations for the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Laguna Beach is an artsy seaside town that's just over an hour's drive from Los Angeles. With its knockout sunsets, heated pool, and expansive spa, it's a magnet for couples who like to relax -- as well as those who enjoy kayaking, snorkeling, and of course, surfing.

5. Canada: The Fairmont Banff Springs

In perhaps the most glorious setting in inside Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, the Fairmont Banff Springs was built in 1888 in the style of a Scottish castle. Today it's UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is the largest luxury hotel company in North America, with a distinctive collection and a worldwide reputation for excellence. Its diverse portfolio includes historic icons, elegant resorts, and modern city center properties.

Activities both indoor (Willow Stream Spa, HD Golf Simulator) and outdoor (heated swimming pool, skiing, hiking, kayaking) attract couples year-round to this mountain haven.

6. Philippines: Shangri-La's Boracay Resort

Located on a secluded hillside inside an eco-reserve that slopes down to the white-sand beach and Philippine Sea, Shangri-La's luxurious Boracay Resort is primarily a family-friendly resort. Edged by coral reefs, it's a popular scuba diving spot as well.

7. Singapore: Capella Singapore

Located on Sentosa Island — Asia's closest point to the Equator — Capella Singapore stands south of the crowded city. Rather than facing the city's skyscraper profile, it faces south to the Indian Ocean. The posh resort, which prides itself on overweening service, lures lovers to its best accommodations with outdoor bathtubs and personal swimming pools, fine cuisine and luxury touches such as beds outfitted in Pratesi linens.
