The London West Hollywood in a Nutshell:
Sexy, smart, and stylish, The London West Hollywood stands just off Sunset Boulevard, with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it entrance on San Vicente Boulevard. A lure to foodies, Gordon Ramsay’s casual Boxwood Café shares space in the hotel with his more formal, Michelin-starred Gordon Ramsay at The London West Hollywood. Once you check in, check out the rooftop pool and spacious sundeck, a favorite with A-listers. The pool concierge, daybeds, and panoramic views of the legendary Hollywood Hills serve to remind guests, famous and not-so, that they have truly arrived.
Guest Rooms at the London West Hollywood:
As glamorous as a Beverly Hills boudoir, each of the 200 suites at The London features plush bedding, sectional sofas, and marble bathrooms. The embossed leather furniture, suede walls, and velvet upholstery are in soothing shades of cream, gray and brown. Many suites have a balcony and large bathroom with an oversize tub big enough for two. Complimentary wi-fi is provided and all rooms have iPod docking stations. Those on lower floors don’t offer much in the way of views, so if that’s a concern, ask when making your reservation. In a nod to its British guests, The London offers free phone calls to London, England.
Dining at The London West Hollywood:
The main dining draw is Gordon Ramsay at The London. The Hell’s Kitchen chef’s only restaurant in California serves Western European fare with subtle Asian influences. Despite its Michelin star, we found the food overly fussy. For example, heavy truffle Madera sauce on beef tenderloin covered up the taste of what was otherwise a superior cut of beef. On the plus side, the restaurant is spacious and nearly everyone, even cozy couples, is seated in an oversize booth. The service was friendly and attentive, without crossing the line to oppressive. Gordon Ramsay is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday.
Destination Weddings at The London West Hollywood:
The London has a private event manager who works with brides and grooms on planning their wedding. Reception spaces range from intimate and outdoors to banquet rooms with a capacity for up to 600 people. One popular ceremony venue is the grassy lawn of the third-floor Hampton Court garden at sunset. Afterwards head indoors for a gourmet reception catered by Gordon Ramsey at The London. The on-site Alex Roldan Salon offers hair and makeup packages for the bridal party.
Romance at The London West Hollywood:
The hotel does not offer honeymoon or romance packages, but can work with guests to accommodate special romantic requests, such as in-room dining, sunset cocktails by the pool, or a scattering of rose petals on the bed. The service and elegance of The London West Hollywood is conducive to romance; you and your sweetie could spend your entire stay sequestered here, ordering room service for breakfast, sunning by the pool, and dining at Gordon Ramsey's restaurants.
Activities at The London West Hollywood:
The rooftop pool is the see-and-be-seen spot at the hotel. It offers stunning views of the surrounding Hollywood Hills, a fire pit, and lounge chairs and cabanas. Boxwood Café, also run by Ramsay, serves food and cocktails to pool guests. For a taste of Britain, check out Hampton Court, the romantic and peaceful garden on the third floor of the hotel, the centerpiece of which is an oversize chessboard. While The London doesn’t have a spa, the on-site Alex Roldan Salon offers facials, manicures, pedicures, and hair styling.
Nearby The London West Hollywood:
There’s no shortage of activities within easy driving distance from The London. Part of the reason West Hollywood is a popular place to stay is the world-class shopping along Melrose Avenue and Place (think Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Paul Smith, and many more). The hotel is also convenient to Hollywood and its many attractions, including Grauman’s Chinese Theater, Beverly Hills, more shopping, Santa Monica, and the beach.
The London West Hollywood Hotel Vibe:
The London West Hollywood attracts a sophisticated guest who appreciates fine service and attention to detail but doesn’t want the formality or stuffiness that occasionally go along with it. Guests of all ages will appreciate the generously sized and handsomely decorated rooms. While children are allowed at the hotel, there were none to be found on a recent visit.
