Sandals Royal Bahamian

It's one thing to read about a resort on its website; it's another to read a review from a traveler who's experienced it first-hand. Kelly C. Roell recently returned from Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort in Nassau, and reviewed her experience for Honeymoons/Romantic Travel from About.com.

Q: When did you visit Sandals Royal Bahamian?

Kelly: November 25 - 29, 2010

Q: Was it your first visit?

Kelly: Yes!

Q: Why did you pick this resort?

Kelly: We chose Sandals Royal Bahamian for several reasons. First, it was close to my home - it's only a 55-minute flight from a nearby airport. Secondly, we wanted something all-inclusive, so we didn't have to worry about tipping, losing track of how much we'd spent, carrying cash, etc. Third, we'd never been to the Bahamas and had always wanted to see what we were missing!

Q: Were you celebrating a special occasion? If so, what was it? Did the resort do anything special to honor your visit?

Kelly: Yes! Our 10-year anniversary. We were greeted with champagne when we checked in, and one of the hostesses showed us to our room. We could've ordered a honeymoon package for an extra price.

Q: What type of room did you stay in?

Kelly: We stayed in the Royal Bahamian Concierge Room in the Manor Building.

Q: What did you like about the room?

Kelly: We loved the view - it was spectacular. We were right on the ocean. We also liked that there was a dressing area outside of the bathroom, so we could both get ready at the same time.

Q: What could have been better in the room?

Kelly: We expected the room to be a little more luxurious, although it was very nice. We stayed in The Moon Palace in Cancun for our Honeymoon, and the room's appointments were much more grandiose!

Q: How was the food?

Kelly: I'd give it a 4 out of 5.

Q: Which was your favorite restaurant?

Kelly: The Baccarat, by a long shot. The view was nice and the food was outstanding.

Q: What was the scene like at the pool?

Kelly: Laid-back and romantic, except when we played water volleyball. They had music playing softly sometimes.

Q: At the beach?

Kelly: The same - very laid back. Lots of couples lying next to each other reading, soaking in the sun, relaxing.

Q: Did you use the spa? If so, how was it?

Kelly: I didn't want to leave the beautiful beach and go inside!

Q: What sports did you participate in?

Kelly: Everything! We played sand volleyball every day, snorkeled twice, kayaked, went boating, and even played a few rousing games of ping-pong in Cricketer's pub at night.

Q: What was the most fun?

Kelly: Snorkeling was exquisite - the best I've ever seen, and we had a blast playing volleyball every afternoon with a few couples we came to know.

Q: What age group were most of the guests?

Kelly: It ranged pretty widely from younger newlyweds in their early 20's to plus 70. I'd say most were in their 30's and 40's.

Q: What did you do after dinner?

Kelly: Sandals offered a lot of nightly entertainment. One night, we went to a Bahamaian festival right at the resort with dancing, drinks, crafts and appetizers. Another night, we enjoyed a live dance/singing performance. Another night, we snuggled up on one of the outdoor sofas around one of the many beach-front fire pits and watched the stars. Another night, we sang karaoke, danced and played ping-pong at Cricketer's Pub.

Q: Would you return to this resort?

Kelly: Definitely. The private island was awesome, and the snorkeling was the best!
