Westin's "Heavenly Bed" is not a misnomer.

As a Westin property, La Cantera features the brand's "Heavenly" beds. Swathed in crisp white sheets and topped with feather pillows in a variety of sizes, the king-size beds are indeed a haven for both energetic lovers as well as tired guests. Here, you will sleep well.

To ensure we floated off to dreamland unimpeded, a turndown gift of chocolates, sweet almond cake slices, and a small bottle of Don Julio tequila greeted our return from dinner on the first night.

Rooms in the main building feature a sexy black hand-tooled leather headboard; otherwise the décor is traditional. We liked that the upholstered reading chair and ottoman are oversize. And you won't need a magnifying glass to watch the 42-inch Philips flatscreen HDTV. In addition to standard channels, HBO is provided.

Marble bathrooms feature twin sinks, a bathtub for one, and a door to the toilet. We especially like that there is a separate mirrored vanity area with a magnifying makeup mirror provided.

Rooms have an Ethernet cable for those who need to use the Internet, and guests can choose from two connection speeds (there is a fee for both). Wi-fi is available in the lobby and meeting rooms.

But don't spend all your time working: Slide open the door to your French balcony and take in the sound of birds and the sight of the Texas Hill Country beyond your window.

Sensitive to the environment, the Westin allows guests to "make a green choice" and decline daily housekeeping. The reward is a $5 gift card redeemable at hotel eateries.
