What to Expect at the Hyatt Dorado Beach :
Note: As of May 31, 2006, Hyatt Dorado Beach is closed. You may experience a similar resort at the Hyatt Regency Aruba.
Set overlooking a clean, wide swath of beach on Puerto Rico's north coast, the low-rise Hyatt Dorado Beach is a luxury resort about an hour's drive from the San Juan Airport. A former plantation, the hotel was built in 1958 by Laurence Rockefeller.
Guest Rooms the Hyatt Dorado Beach :
The majority of rooms at the Hyatt Dorado Beach hotel (222 out of 262) offer immediate beach access. Ocean-view rooms make a stay especially pleasurable. Decorated in tropical hues, rooms are not high-tech but they are on the large side and comfortable. Luxury linens and white bedspreads cover pedestal-type two-poster beds.
Dining at the Hyatt Dorado Beach :
Because the hotel is so isolated, food is expensive and there is not a wide range of dining choices. Su Casa restaurant, with its Spanish-style wrought-iron grill work and heavy wooden furniture transports diners to a romantic hacienda. Other eateries include the 50s style Johnny Rockets diner, a beachside grill, and a Chinese-Japanese restaurant (we've never been to one of these dual eateries that is exceptional in preparing either cuisine).
Honeymoon at the Hyatt Dorado Beach :
There is no dedicated honeymoon package. Golf and spa packages are available.
Weddings at the Hyatt Dorado Beach :
Hyatt Dorado Beach resort has hosted many weddings. Its facilities can accommodate everything from an intimate beachfront ceremony to a large catered gathering. The wedding coordinator (787-796-8952) can help with all arrangements. Venues include terraces, lawn areas, poolside, a beachfront gazebo, gardens, and scenic spots along the beach.
Nearby the Hyatt Dorado Beach Resort & Country Club:
Guests can take a free shuttle to the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar timeshare (formerly the Hyatt Cerromar Beach Hotel) two miles away and make use of its large swimming complex and river pool. Otherwise there isn't much to do nearby. The hotel does offer trips to Old San Juan, the Bacardi Rum Factory, and El Yunque Rain Forest. Alternately, rent a car and explore the island by yourselves.
Is the Hyatt Dorado Beach Right for You?:
If you love the beach and warm-weather activities golf, tennis, sailing, snorkeling, windsurfing, etc. you'll find Hyatt Dorado Beach a welcome escape from crowds and the stresses of the world. On the other hand, if you like to be in the middle of the action, hop from hotel to hotel, restaurant to restaurant, you may be happier staying at a resort in San Juan.
