During the Civil War, pews in the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church were turned into a hospital overflowing with wounded. Four months after the Battle of Gettysburg ended, President Abraham Lincoln arrived in Gettysburg to help dedicate the National Cemetary. At the morning ceremony Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. Later that same day he attended a meeting in the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church. A bronze plaque marks the pew he occupied.
