Gettysburg Battlefield

In 1938 this Gettysburg Memorial was dedicated, and some 2,000 Civil War veterans made their way to Gettsyburg for the ceremony. A surprising number were close to a century old. This was the last official public event to pay tribute to live soldiers and fallen comrades who fought and sacrificed in the most destructive battle in American history.
