It is hard for even the most eagle-eyed, seen-it-all traveler to find fault with this resort. It sets and meets lofty standards for itself in terms of accommodations and service.

El Monte Sagrado does not cut corners. Room furnishings are authentic Indian collectibles, not imported knockoffs. The sheets, towels, toiletries and champagne the management puts in your room is the good stuff. The best ingredients and tableware are pressed into service at De la Tierra restaurant.

Staffers sincerely aim to please and respect the solitude of their guests. The usual petty annoyances that guests encounter at even top-drawer hotels are absent here.

You won’t hear chambermaids chattering, nor will they take away half-eaten trays of food that you intended to save for later.

Rooms are very quiet, and noise-producing equipment such as generators are not in evidence. There are few children around to break the romantic spell.

As close to perfection as El Monte Sagrado gets, some guests may be annoyed that room service is not 24 hours, and that a not-insignificant parking fee is charged.
