What do you think of when you hear "New Jersey?" Bruce Springsteen? Casinos? The Sopranos? Runner-up to New York?

Those are all part of New Jersey, but so is the 127-mile coastline... the Victorian charm of Cape May... and the preppie enclave known as Princeton.

Whether you are history lovers, outdoors aficionados, sun worshipers, or a couple in search of romance or silly fun, you’ll find it in New Jersey.

Discover more about the locations that make New Jersey a suitable destination for your honeymoon or romantic getaway — despite the fact the state has been the punchline to a million jokes.

It's simply not true that if first prize is a week in New Jersey, second prize is two weeks!

New Jersey Regions

New Jersey is divided into six regions, each with its own distinct history and character. These are the key attractions of each region:

  • The Shore – Seaside towns, historic lighthouses, beautiful beaches.
  • Greater Atlantic City - Opulent casino-hotels, superstar performers, gourmet restaurants.
  • Southern Shore – Victorian charm, romantic B&Bs, historic villages.
  • Delaware River – Pristine Pine Barrens, “Jersey Fresh” produce, Princeton University.
  • Skylands – Delaware Water Gap, Kittatinny Mountains, Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Gateway – Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Liberty State Park.
An enjoyable way to see them is by car, at your own pace. At New Jersey Tourism, you can find details on towns, state parks, historic sites, accommodations and more in each of these regions.

A Little History of New Jersey
Known as the Crossroads of the American Revolution, New Jersey played an important role in the country’s history.

From the site outside Trenton where General George Washington led his troops across the Delaware River, to Liberty State Park overlooking the proud Statue of Liberty, the past remains alive.

Historic homes, battlefields, monuments, museums, and landmark districts preserve the past and reveal it to visitors. Annual re-enactments and living-history events make it even more palpable.

The fall of Fort Lee, the retreat of General Washington and the Continental Army, the crossing of the Delaware, the defeat of the Hessians in Trenton, and ultimately the signing of the Declaration of Independence were all critical Revolutionary activities that helped to forge the state New Jersey is today.
