Located on the perimeter of Mont Tremblant's pedestrian village and not far from the ski mountain itself, the Westin Tremblant is a condo hotel with a heated outdoor all-weather swimming pool, spa, and bar/lounge. The Internet-connected PC in its business center is available to guests at no charge.
Accommodations at the Westin condo/hotel are set up for longer-term stays and feature a microwave oven and mini refrigerator. A romantic gas fireplace lights at the click of a button. And rooms that face the pedestrian village have a wide balcony overlooking it. Two Westin-branded features, the Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath are included. After sleeping in the former, I found it more earthbound than Heavenly -- previous occupants had made it somewhat concave. And the bath, although longer and slightly wider than standard hotel baths, lacked bubble bath or a ledge that would have made it live up to its name.
Starving is more like it! Skiing works up an appetite, but you will be hard-pressed to sate it at the Westin Tremblant. There isn't a shop in the hotel to even buy a candy bar, rooms have a refrigerator but no minibar, and fresh complimentary oranges in the lobby share a bowl with moldy ones. At the only restaurant in the hotel, a near-empty Japanese eatery on the first floor, service is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w and features tasty but lukewarm miso soup and greasy gyozas. Room service makes grilled cheese without buttering the bread. Actually, the only thing the kitchen doesn't screw up is chocolate milk; that is yummy.
The outdoor heated pool is a draw even when the temperature plummets. Inside the hotel is a health and fitness center with a lap pool and steam rooms. Personal training is available.
By taking the rear elevator in the hotel to the 3rd floor, guests have a shortcut to Mont Tremblant's charming pedestrian village, which rings the mountain and ski lifts.
On a recent visit, two young children, dressed as Batman and Superman, caromed through the lobby unimpeded. If their caretaker did not know enough to curtail them, an adult at the front desk or concierge station should have warned them not to annoy guests. Call us crazy, but there's something about the ambiance at the Fairmont Tremblant that just makes kids behave better. Many rooms have Web TV available for a fee, but as a heavy Internet user I've found that a poor substitute for wi-fi; better to use the one free computer in the business center.
If you're planning to stay more than a weekend and are prepared to lay in your own provisions, you may find the kitchen facilities at the Westin Tremblant a convenience and a money-saver.
