To Reach Monterey County by Air
Monterey County has its own tiny airport (MRY). Monterey Regional airport is 10 minutes from downtown Monterey, 15 minutes from Carmel-by-the-Sea, 25 minutes from downtown Salinas, and 45 minutes from Big Sur. Several major airlines fly into MRY. San Jose Airport is about 1 hour from Monterey, and San Francisco Airport is about 2-2.5 hours away.
To Reach Monterey County by Land
Highway 1 is the more scenic driving route. If you have time, follow it to come down (or up) the coast. If you prefer to get there more quickly, Highway 101 is the alternative, and offers some of its own lovely views of valley agriculture.
