El Dorado Royal is an adults-only all-inclusive resort that lies along the beach about 17 miles south of Cancun.
It prides itself on offering a "gourmet" experience and bills itself as a spa resort.
While the hotel gets high marks from guests for cleanliness, lovely grounds, and the luxuriousness of its casita units, couples who expect a beach vacation where they can frolic in the ocean unimpeded will be disappointed. Because of erosion caused by hurricanes, large sandbags are in place to block further loss of the resort's beach frontage, which is rocky in many spots.
