Most guests staying at the resort do not leave the property. This is the lure of an all-inclusive. Meals, drinks, water activities, dance lessons, entertainment, everything is provided.

However, for those who wish to go beyond the resort, Playa Del Carmen is a great place for shopping. The resort offers free shuttle service there.

There are also a host of other activities offered by Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun: jet skiing, parasailing, sight-seeing tours to Tulum.

One of my favorite excursions was a full-day snorkeling and ATV tour. The Great Maya Reef is the second largest reef system in the world and snorkeling is a must for water aficionados.

We then rode ATVs through the jungle and along the beach until we came across the famous cenotes, sink holes created when pieces of land above the subterranean rivers collapsed millions of years ago. Filled with clear, tranquil water, the cenotes were considered sacred by the Mayans.

The entrance and exit of the Riviera Maya’s underground rivers often lead to caverns, an underwater world filled with stalactites and stalagmites as well as waters with no current and great visibility.
