Sara Roosevelt purchased this house on Campobello island near her own in 1909 and left it in her will to Eleanor and Franklin.
The building's design reflects architectural references to both the Arts and Crafts movement as well as Early American Colonial styles.
From 1909 to 1921, Franklin, Eleanor, and their children spent summers in the cottage, adding to it to accommodate their growing family. The Cottage contains 34 rooms including 18 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
