Guide Review - Cabo Azul Resort and Spa
La Corazon Wedding Chapel offers a giant-yet-tasteful cross or Star of David to suspend from its five-story ceiling (or nothing at all) depending on a couples’ faith. The Paz spa is also lovely, providing nooks for intimacy.
We want to love Cabo Azul, but as with many beautiful things, once you get past the good looks, a few key things are not-so-hot. Normally, a swim-up pool bar is a blessing. However during our stay, the midday bar crowd — brash, drunk, and at top-volume — ruined what was already a tepid lunch at poolside, palapa-topped Flor De Noche restaurant. (Do we really travel to Mexico for Philly cheesesteaks or Hawaiian burgers?)
Also a bummer was Javier’s, Cabo Azul’s upscale restaurant. The house special was sloppy— the lobster enchilada was cold, the fried shrimp taco greasy, and the grilled chile relleno with shrimp and crab was unwieldy and poorly plated.
For a romantic getaway, there aren’t many options to “get away” at Cabo Azul. Many of the balconies are exposed, even at the penthouses. Pool areas are crowded and chatty. If food or privacy aren't big concerns, this is a spot worth checking out. There are ample restaurants in town or at other resorts. Besides, on a honeymoon, you’ll be spending a lot of time indoors and should be able to live on love.
