Many Americans reach London tired and in need of a shower after an overnight flight. With the time change (five or six hours ahead, depending on time of year), it is morning in England. As one of the weary, I arrived at Brown's Hotel shortly before noon -- and was advised to return in two hours when my room would be ready.
Aware of Brown's reputation for fine service, I was a bit taken aback to be put out on the sidewalk. (The hotel did readily store my bag.) Although the lobby is too small for loitering, the desk clerk might have pointed out another area in the hotel where I could wait. Perhaps there was none. Regardless, my initial interaction with Brown's Hotel was frustrating.
