Before Il San Pietro di Positano became a romantic hotel, it was a private villa surrounded by scented gardens and and a lemon grove. The family that owned the latter has run the property ever since.
Each of the 61 rooms is laid out and decorated differently, with antiques and hand-painted furniture. Floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies access the memorable view. On site is a spa, tennis courts, and a fitness center, but you'll want to spend most of your time outdoors. The elevator that goes down to the beach makes it easy, and the service on the expansive terrace puts pleasure at your fingertips.
One of the most romantic spots on the property is the beachside restaurant that stands on a raised deck. Tables are lit by candles. On a honeymoon or romantic getaway, it's the place to celebrate the sunset with a glass of prosecco — or stay for dinner.
Previous guests at this Relais & Chateaux hotel include Julia Roberts, Barbara Streisand, and the Dalai Lama. Children over the age of ten are permitted. Between November 1 and March 31, the hotel is closed.
