What to Expect at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale:
Oh, how the world changes! It is hard to believe that where The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale now stands like a giant cruise ship amongst a row of luxury hotels, The Candy Store, a site of spring break mayhem (wet T- shirt contests and binge drinking), once reigned. Now the lobby of The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale, a vast Art Deco-ish expanse of white marble, offering fresh fruit-flavored water, conjures up images of Fred and Ginger tapping. The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale is the only hotel in Broward County to receive AAA’s 5 Diamond Award
Guest Rooms at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale:
The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale is built so that the street below cannot be seen from the balconies of oceanfront rooms, reinforcing that ocean liner sensibility. Rooms are decorated in pale yellow, beige, and white, with a touch of green provided by a live palm tree. We loved the luxury of a plush chaise lounge in the room. The lighting is terrific, particularly the bendable reading lamps on each side of the bed that turn on and off with a touch of the hand.
Dining at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale:
Cero, The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale restaurant, features ocean view dining and an outdoor patio. When we visited the menu focused on fresh fish but there was talk of it becoming an Italian grill. We enjoyed a dessert of warm Nutella beignets, chocolate cappuccino, and miniature ice cream sandwiches. At breakfast, when we asked for more berries to have with our buttermilk pancakes, we were presented with a bowl of incredibly sweet fresh raspberries. A bar menu is available at the lobby bar, which also faces the ocean.
Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale:
At the spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale we waited in the co-ed lounge before heading off to our soothing and invigorating couples massage on side-by-side tables that adjusted to the contours of our bodies. We returned to the lounge to relax afterward with a cup of herbal tea and fresh fruit and nuts. It was a nice touch to find a comb, toothpaste, and toothbrush and other amenities in the locker where robes and slippers are provided. The well-equipped fitness center faces the waterways to the west.
Destination Weddings at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale:
The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale hosts many weddings each year, and can accommodate up to 400 guests. The pre-function area of the ballroom faces the ocean. Honeymoons/Romance at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale:
The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale is a glamorous spot for a romantic getaway. It is possible to rent a cabana below the pool deck that faces the ocean and enjoy a private lunch (we had tasty lobster rolls on naan bread) and, perhaps, a massage. As you should expect at a luxury hotel, special requests are welcomed, particularly when issued in advance.
A Special Treat at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale:
We had a private wine tasting with The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale’s sommelier in the wine room, which contains a collection of 5,000 bottles. We started with Champagne and then moved on to a New Zealand sauvignon blanc, Argentinean malbec (we immediately bought a case of it when we got home), and ended with a Napa merlot. A Scotch tasting from the hotel’s extensive collection also can be arranged.
What Could Be Better at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale?:
The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale is family friendly and has only one swimming pool, which means that there are likely to be kids around. Also note that next to the southern end of the hotel is a low building with topped with noisy generators that block out the sound of the ocean. Couples are advised to request a room in the mid section or the northern end of the property.
Is The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale Right for You?:
The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale is Fort Lauderdale’s first and at this writing only AAA Five Diamond hotel. It is sophisticated but not pretentious and provides great service. When we discovered that the shower in our bathroom was not working properly, it was immediately repaired. They offered to move us to another room because we wouldn’t be able to use the shower until mid-afternoon.
