Today you can still expect inviting rooms, gentle waters beside its Atlantic Ocean beach, superlative dining, a stunning spa, and pro-level sports options.

Boca Raton Resort in a Nutshell

The seaside town of Boca Raton and its centerpiece resort were built in the 1920s by Addison Mizner, and they've been drawing honeymoon couples ever since. Perched amidst the gracious villas, palm-lined boulevards, and yacht clubs of Boca Raton, the resort lures prosperous patrons. The resort’s impeccable pedigree—it's now a member of the prestigious Waldorf Astoria Collection—reflects well on couples with classy taste—or nest-building lovebirds intent on climbing social and corporate ladders.

Shuttle vans and a boat launch connect the sprawling, 1,047-room resort’s two sections, face-to-face across the Intracoastal Waterway. Spa, golf, and most dining are found on the Intracoastal side, the Atlantic beach on the ocean peninsula.

Cloister, Tower, and Yacht Club Guestrooms

This sprawling resort comprises four distinct sections with personalities as different as honeymoon couples. The resort’s vintage-1926 centerpiece and original wing, the Cloister, is set on the Intracoastal Waterway. Its “Boca pink” façade is a Florida landmark. The Cloister’s 359 rooms and suites furnish classic damask-bedspread ambiance and plush king beds.

The 27-story Tower, also Boca pink, offers airy rooms with sweeping views. They have a gold palette, French Empire wood furniture, and oversized marble baths. The Yacht Club’s 112 accommodations have balconies and Intracoastal views. Their silk-canopied beds, curvaceous lamps, and marble baths recall a Venetian palace. Commodore Rooms grant access to a private lounge and concierge.

Beach Club Guestrooms

The Beach Club wing’s 212 sunny digs provide ocean or Intracoastal views through a glass wall. Some rooms have a huge deck or balcony or open onto the pool patio. Sleek décor is in maritime white and gray. Beds are comfy and bathrooms spacious, with whirlpools for two. (Suites have his-and-hers bathrooms.) Amenities include free wi-fi, an iPod dock, robes, and blackout curtains.

A vast patio contains three pools (to the relief of honeymoon couples, one is adults-only), sun loungers aplenty, private cabanas, snack and drink service. Boardwalks lead mere steps to the Atlantic sand and surf. The Beach Club’s indoor-outdoor restaurant, SeaGrille, is marvelous day and night. The impressive fitness room features a Pilates-like Kinesis wall.

Dining at Boca Raton Resort & Club

Boca Raton Resort & Club has emerged as a trophy for culinary travelers and honeymoon couples hungering to refine their palates. A dozen eateries supervised by executive chef Andrew Roenbeck finesse numerous cuisines at a range of tabs. Resort restaurants include Morimoto Sushi Bar of “Iron Chef” fame and a recreation of New York’s iconic sweet shoppe, Serendipity. Other dining options:
  • Cielo, on the Tower penthouse, for views, creative cocktails, fine wines, and the bistro menu
  • Lucca, a waterfront Tuscan trattoria with superlative cuisine
  • 501 East, for prime steaks, gourmet burgers, ribs, craft beers, and Key Lime pie
  • SeaGrille, the Beach Club’s versatile eatery, with crave-worthy appetizers, ceviche, and luscious catches of the day

Spa Palazzo at Boca Raton Resort & Club

The resort’s Spa Palazzo occupies a wing of the hotel’s 1926 Cloister building, and its ravishing Moorish design conjures the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. Dual bathing pavilions—one for gals, one for guys—resemble harem lounges. They host the spa’s Ritual Bath service, a 50-minute series of water treatments. The spa’s aestheticians perform face and body services such as the Eminence Custom Organic Facial, using organic potions from Hungary.

Especially for honeymoon couples and other lovers, the spa menu offers a languorous Couples’ Sweet Retreat comprising a ritual foot cleansing, a couples massage, tea, and chocolates.

Activities at Boca Raton Resort & Club

With so many activities to choose from at Boca Raton Resort & Club, there is no pressing need for a honeymoon couple to venture off-property. The resort’s spa and restaurants are top-of-the-line. Pretty pools dot the resort: social pools, an adults-only pool, an infinity pool, a lap pool, a fountain pool, plus hot tubs. Private poolside cabanas with wi-fi and TVs may be rented.

The Beach Club’s pristine, half-mile Atlantic beach offers numerous watersports. Athletic options on-property include cutting-edge gyms, two championship golf courses, a golf academy, and the famed Evert Tennis Academy. Resort boutiques tempt with another competitive sport: shopping.

Weddings at Boca Raton Resort & Club

Many a couple precedes their honeymoon at the Boca Raton Resort & Club with a wedding at this many-acre waterside property. Professional event planners, wedding designers, and an ace catering team finesse customized nuptials. And for the couple’s wedding guests, an upmarket Florida vacation is in store.

The resort’s event venues are numerous. Deservedly popular wedding options include the vintage-1926 Gothic-look Cathedral Room, the Moorish-style Spa Palazzo pool, and the posh Venetian Ballroom and Terrace. Knot-tiers may also exchange vows in the resort’s restaurants or on the Beach Club’s silky white sand. Group discounts on rooms and other deals may be available through the resort’s event planners.

Drawbacks at Boca Raton Resort & Club

Honeymoon couples seeking a quiet retreat may feel challenged by the energetic vibe at the resort’s Beach Club, a destination for families and sun-worshippers. Romantic duos may encounter toddlers on the patios and beach and on the other side of their wall or ceiling. The more sedate Cloister, Yacht Club, and Tower sections appeal more to adult travelers than families.

Another consideration for potential guests is the resort’s far-flung layout; this is not a compact hotel. A van or boat shuttle is required to criss-cross the two halves of the resort; the beach is on one side, and the spa, golf courses, and most restaurants are on the other.

Is Boca Raton Resort & Club Right for Your Honeymoon?

© Boca Raton Resort & Club
Boca Raton Resort & Club is an established hotel name sure to elicit murmurs of approval from prosperous in-laws. But this prestigious resort has a split personality. Its dignified “Boca pink” sections—the Cloister, Yacht Club, and Tower—provide an elegant Florida getaway that appeals to couples rather than families. The go-to for the parental set is the resort’s Beach Club wing. (The tipoff? Its private cabanas surround the kiddie pool.)

This landmark resort makes good sense for couples who travel for the spa, golf, tennis, or dining. An inspired choice for engaged couples seeking a dazzling destination wedding, it won't require packing to leave for another place after the guests depart and the honeymoon begins.
