While room prices are reasonable enough that a honeymoon couple can afford a level of luxury that would cost more at similar resorts in other Caribbean countries, some of the extras are high. Soft drinks are $8 and decaffeinated coffee, which consisted of a packet of instant Nescafé, was $4.75.
The resort is located at the end of a bumpy, unpaved road and remote enough that going off-site requires an expensive taxi fare (one local estimated a one-way taxi fare of $60 to get to the hotels, casinos, restaurants, and clubs in the more developed section of Punta Cana, a half hour away).
The hotel claims to have a multi-lingual staff, but many employees speak little or no English, making communication a challenge. While the grounds are primarily covered in lush gardens, there are a few spots with scraggly grass that look neglected.
