Barcelo Punta Cana is one of half a dozen sprawling Barcelo resorts in Punta Cana, each one seemingly larger than the last.
While five of the Barcelo hotels are located in a single complex along with a convention center, casino, and discotheque, Barcelo Punta Cana stands alone, about twenty minutes away from the others by car.
That doesnt mean the Barcelo Punta Cana isnt huge in its own right. This all-inclusive mega-resort, which was owned by Breezes until October 2006, comprises 795 guest rooms housed in a tremendous four-story building.
Its facilities include a large pool with a swim-up bar, a lovely stretch of beach, a casino, a spa and fitness center, shops, seven restaurants, seven bars, and daily tea, which are all included.
It also has three tennis courts, a climbing wall and trapeze, a soccer field, and facilities for beach volleyball, kayaking, sailing, water basketball and volleyball, and ping-pong.
Scuba diving lessons are given for free in the pool.
Activities are offered all day, ranging from Spanish and salsa lessons to egg tossing competitions to beer drinking and tequila parties.
While Barcelo Punta Cana attracts a lot of couples, it is also popular as a family resort. It has a childrens pool, a mini-club for kids, and many childrens activities. As a result, it lacks the quiet couples atmosphere of many smaller Caribbean resorts with a primarily adult clientele.
