The 2006 refurbishment added small flatscreen TVs and a bedding change. Some may find the new decor drab, others restful.
When we first entered our Concierge Class cabin, we were struck by the odor more than the palette. It was not fresh. It smelled as if many had used the room before.
I don't believe in living in a stale room, nor should you. So I phoned housekeeping. Katja, in charge of the room stewards, showed up promptly, assessed the situation, and came up with a plan: The walls would be scrubbed and the carpet and upholstery steam-cleaned. Fair enough.
Improvements occurred according to the schedule we agreed upon, and we were impressed when our chair was returned reupholstered, rather than simply cleaned.
Concierge Class Perks
Concierge class passengers get a panoply of goodies, beginning with priority check-in and continuing with a welcome bottle of champagne on ice and a bowl of fruit.
Frette bathrobes, afternoon canapes (which few fellow passengers found appetizing) and evening turndown are also included. Although we received a generic welcome from our "concierge," she never came around to introduce herself.
Several things about the cabin did impress us:
- Well-organized bathrooms have a vessel sink and large (room for two) shower with excellent water pressure
- In-room wi-fi is glitch-free
- The balcony is large and has two comfortable chairs and a teak tabletop ideal for dining al fresco.
