This quiet, scenic part of Connecticut reveals its charms slowly. Classic Yankee inns, a pristine waterfront, art galleries and museums, romantic restaurants, and remnants of the past combine to provide visitors with ample reasons to explore the lower Connecticut River Valley, which the Nature Conservancy calls "one of the last great places on Earth."
The Lower Connecticut River Valley is almost equidistant between New York and Boston, 100 miles or so from each of these major cities.
For visitors, part of the appeal of the Connecticut River Valley is its proximity to other Connecticut attractions. It is half an hour from the Mystic Seaport, and fifteen minutes from two large outlet malls. Mohegan Sun Casino is a half-hour away, and Foxwoods Casino is a few minutes beyond that.
