HONEYMOONS USA
- Guide to Florida for Visitors, Dawn Henthorn:
"Where else would a future Florida for Visitors guide honeymoon? Disney World, of course! Thirty-one years ago my husband, John, and I stayed at the Contemporary, which was THE one property hotel at the time. Interestingly enough, our 'package' included a 3-night, 4-day stay with theme park tickets to the Magic Kingdom (the only theme park at the time), admission to Discovery Island (which is no longer) and tickets for a breakfast and a lunch at the Top of the World restaurant. The price? Would you believe only $385. That wouldn't even cover one day's stay today."
Guide to NYC for Visitors, Heather Cross:
"Dan and I hit Miami and the Florida Keys for our honeymoon. Besides gorging
ourselves on fresh seafood, we enjoyed driving our (rented) Sebring
convertible, and snorkeling at Dry Tortugas."
Guide to US/Canadian Parks, Darren Smith:
"My wife and I honeymooned in lovely Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico (and, of
course, visited some of the nearby national parks!"
Guide to Asia for Visitors, Greg Cruey:
"Pembroke, Va., (pop. 1,164) in Giles County to a cabin that was literally a
stone's throw from the New River...."
Guide to Camping, David Sweet:
"Christi and I stayed on the shores of Cherokee Lake in eastern TN. When we
had extra time we went boating and fishing."
Guide to Themeparks, Arthur Levine:
"I went to Nantucketand returned there a couple of years ago for my 25th
anniversary. Which reminds me of a limerick: There once was a couple on
Nantucket..."
Guide to Spas, Anitra Brown:
"My husband and I drove to Santa Fe and Taos from Oklahoma,
where we married, but couldn't bring ourselves to go out to the Pueblos
because it felt like gawking."
Guide to Cruises, Linda Garrison:
"Ronnie (the About Freshwater Fishing Guide) and I eloped to a justice of the
peace on August 20, 1971...We went and told my folks we were married and then drove across the state to where his folks lived to tell them. Since I had to be back at work on
Monday in Athens, GA (this was the weekend), we went to my in-laws
camping trailer on Lake Clark Hill on the GA/SC line for a short romantic
fishing trip/honeymoon. I think I learned to clean fish that weekend . . .
guess I should have gotten an annulment while I could. I'll have to admit I
almost cried when they sold that old camping trailer."
Guide to Hotels, Charlyn Chisholm:
"Gary and I stayed at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. After planning a huge
Catholic wedding with 12 attendants and 350 guests in five months, were were
both completely exhausted. We spent a very lazy week. The highlight was
ordering room service breakfast in our Lake View room. They would set up a
table by the window, where we could lounge around in plush bathrobes and
watch the dancing fountains outside (the music is piped in on the television
set). When we got ambitious, we would venture down to the swimming pool and
read books while they delivered frozen drinks to our lounge chairs. Later we
would hit the buffets and see shows -- Cirque de Soleil's Mystere was my
favorite. We managed to fit in some gambling and roller coasters too. Now
that we have a preschooler, I only dream of vacations like that one."
HONEYMOON IN ASIA
- Guide to Africa for Visitors, Anouk Zijlma:
"Our honeymoon consisted of backpacking around China for 6 weeks, mostly in the South and Southwest. Maybe not the most romantic or relaxing but certainly memorable!"
HONEYMOON IN CANADA
- Guide to Canada for Visitors, Elke Mairs:
"Harrison Hot Springs Resort, about a 90-minute drive east of Vancouver, BC. Three-day package included complimentary champagne, a round of golf, and meals."
