Sandy Lane Hotel and Golf Club in Barbados

Sandy Lane in Barbados

Guest bedroom at Sandy Lane in Barbados.

(c) Sandy Lane.
What to Expect at Sandy Lane Hotel :
A jewel among Caribbean resorts, Sandy Lane Hotel is the acme of pampering, comfort, and that overused word, elegance. To keep itself at the top of its game, Sandy Lane closed down for three entire years, transforming itself into a once-again glittering showcase open for business in 2001.

This best-of-the-best, exclusive hideaway comes at a steep price, but if you've got champagne dreams and a bankbook to match, you won't regret vacationing here in balmy Barbados below the hurricane zone.

Guest Rooms at Sandy Lane Hotel :
Every detail has been worked out to deliver maximum enjoyment in huge (average 900 square feet) rooms, including spectacular views of the Caribbean from a private verandah. Furnished with a luxe-traditional touch, the 112 quarters feature wide-screen plasma TVs with DVDs and CD players. Find heated mirrors and multi-spray showers in the bathroom.

Dining at Sandy Lane Hotel :
Cuisine counts at Sandy Lane. The resort features four restaurants and five bars. Guests can savor Bajan cuisine, with island seafood prepared as a delicacy. L'Acajou, the resort's premier restaurant, presents French fare and wines on white-linen-covered tables outdoors where the Caribbean laps the shore.

Weddings at Sandy Lane Hotel :
Sandy Lane offers private suites as well as banquet rooms for dining and receptions. The largest is the Spa Room, which can host 150 for a banquet or 250 for a reception.

Honeymoon/Romance Packages at Sandy Lane Hotel :
Sandy Lane offers a "Romance in Paradise" package that includes a luxury ocean room, bottle of champagne on arrival, candlelight dinner for two, catamaran cruise, full English breakfast daily, one spa voucher for US $100 per adult once during stay or one round of golf per person at the Country Club with cart, and unlimited non-motorized watersports. Rates are lower May through October.
Activities at Sandy Lane Hotel :
Swim at the beach or by the pool. Play tennis or visit the spa. Have your hair cut or colored at the John Frieda salon. Indulge in watersports (attendants are qualified instructors). Go sailing. Sandy Lane can also arrange a trip for you to swim with giant sea turtles.

Sandy Lane kept its pre-facelift Old Nine course and has added the 18-hold Country Club Course designed by Tom Fazio and a Green Monkey Course as well. Shoppers can find jewels and designer sportswear at onsite boutiques.

Nearby Sandy Lane Hotel :
On my last visit to Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, aggressive cab drivers hustling for fares made strolling around uncomfortable. Nonetheless, it is an interesting island to tour.

Sandy Lane Guest Services can arrange a driver to circle the island with you. You'll pass squat banana trees, rugby fields, and crashing waters on the rocky side. Consider stopping at Andromeda Gardens, Orchid World, Harrison's Cave and the Old Synagogue as well as the historic cathedrals.

Is Sandy Lane Hotel Right for You?:
Perfection comes at a price. If you have thousands of dollars to spend on a week's visit (or less), Sandy Lane opens its gates of heaven to you.
