Hotel Sacher in a Nutshell:
In every great city there is one legendary hotel, and in Vienna it is the Hotel Sacher, which opened in 1876. Elegant and traditional, Hotel Sacher is world-famous for its Sacher torte, a rich chocolate cake enhanced with a thin layer of apricot jam. The hotel's premier location puts it in the center of Vienna's cultural and commercial life. The State Opera House is visible through the glass windows of the hotel's sidewalk café and the city's other major attractions are also close by.
Guest Rooms at Hotel Sacher :
Opulent and refined, the 152 rooms and suites at Hotel Sacher are decorated with silk wallpaper, original paintings, antiques, and valuable rugs. Digital TVs carry 150 stations in a multitude of languages and wi-fi is available. The top two floors, erected in 2005, added rooms with marble baths and skyline views. Note that you must specify a non-smoking floor if that is your preference.
Dining at Hotel Sacher :
As Proust's madeleines are to Paris, the Sacher torte is to Vienna: luscious, storied, and evocative. Top off a meal in the hotel's Anna Sacher gourmet restaurant, decorated in the sumptuous style of the early 20th century, with a slice. Café Sacher, the traditional Viennese coffee house inside the hotel, has served the sweet for generations. Non-guests often line up around the block for a sample; as a guest, you have direct access.
Weddings at Hotel Sacher:
Hotel Sacher has hosted magical weddings for generations. Couples can be married by a registrar right at the hotel and then continue on to celebrate at a reception in one of the 8 traditional banquet halls, which can accommodate from 2 to 100 guests. The kitchen will collaborate with you to create a meal of your choice that ends with a traditional wedding cake or Sacher torte for the entire party.
Romance Package at Hotel Sacher:
Lovers of food will be pampered and seduced here. The romance package includes one night's accommodations, a Sacher welcome gift, a bottle of Sacher Cuvée, a four-course candlelight dinner, hazelnut cream pralines, breakfast buffet the next morning, and a Sacher torte farewell gift.
Hotel Sacher Spa:
The spa at Hotel Sacher offers a way to indulge in chocolate without adding calories: Its line of chocolate products includes a chocolate body scrub, chocolate body mask, and chocolate body lotion said to nourish and soften the skin. Facilities at the Hotel Sacher Spa include a salt steam bath, traditional sauna, herbal sauna, massage and makeup areas, an ice fountain, and both a meditation and a relaxation area with a bar. There is also a fitness room.
Nearby Hotel Sacher:
Located in the city center, the Vienna State Opera House stands opposite the property. Kärntner Strasse, Vienna's pedestrian shopping area, is nearby as is St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Other city attractions include the Volksgarten gardens overlooking the Houses of Parliament, and Schönbrunn Castle and its gardens. Museum-goers will want to visit Kunsthistorisches, a repository of Hapsburg riches, and then hie to the hip Museum Quarter neighborhood. Further downmarket, Naschmarkt is a flea-food-and-street market. Then analyze it all after a tour of the Sigmund Freud Museum.
What Could be Better at the Hotel Sacher:
Stays at the Hotel Sacher are expensive but that doesn't keep the property from charging for Internet use and parking. The hotel does have a business center. Also, note that only certain floors have been modernized. Those rooms tend to appeal more to young couples, so check when booking.
Vibe at the Hotel Sacher:
You don't have to be chocoholics to stay at the Hotel Sacher, but you ought not be ascetics. The atmosphere is rich and sensual, and there's no point in booking a stay unless you intend to do some serious indulging. If you want to pair your city stay with a less urban experience, head to the Hotel Sacher Salzberg, an historic riverfront hotel operated under the same high standards.
