The French balcony, about a foot deep and too small to hold furniture, is a disappointment, though. How nice it would have been to sit outside in a private space and face the ocean.

Intensely flavorful fruit sorbets are delicious, though.

With talk of a Ritz-Carlton breaking ground in Aruba, expect more upgrades. Premium channels including HBO are available on in-room TV, but twice the connection failed. Overseas telephone calls from guest rooms to the United States are billed at a steep $3.50 per minute. The business center sells an easy-to-use phone card (.40 per minute), but it can only be used at public phones.
