Note: When this resort was originally reviewed, it was called Pointe South Mountain Resort. It has since been reflagged as Arizona Grand Resort. Consider the following content as a snapshot of a point in time.
Larger than some towns, Pointe South Mountain Resort sits on 164 acres at the base of the South Mountain Preserve.
While other arrivals at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport are heading northeast to Scottsdale, you'll take a short six-mile drive south to get to Pointe South Mountain Resort.
You'll know you've arrived at a huge resort when your first stop after registration is the bellman's desk to obtain a 20" x 20" fold-up map of the grounds, along with personal instructions for finding your room and other amenities at the resort.
Armed with car and map, we still got a bit lost and another family still asked us for help in finding their room! It doesn't take long, however, to become accustomed to the layout of the land.
Suites are arranged into three major areas: West Pointe (four stories), East Pointe (four stories), and Mountainside (two stories). Arizona's familiar beige-stucco-with-pink-tile-roof southwest architectural style is dominant.
