El Tovar Grand Canyon Hotel

The Hopi House adjacent to El Tovar was designed by Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, the architect of several famous Grand Canyon buildings who took inspiration from the colors, shapes, and cultures of the American Southwest.

With its low ceilings and warren-like corners, the Hopi House opened two weeks before El Tovar and sold curios; it still does.
