Grand Canyon South Rim Overlook

Nearly 5 million people a year visit Grand Canyon, and most enter it at the South Rim, which stands about 7,000 feet above sea level.

The taller, more remote North Rim of the Grand Canyon soars above 9,000 feet in areas. Because of these high elevations, it's always cooler in the Grand Canyon than lower-lying areas.

Grand Canyon's South Rim is open 365 days a year, although winter weather may cause road closings and views may be temporarily obscured by fog during passing storms.

There are several ways to experience the Grand Canyon's South Rim: Visitors can view it via tour bus, hike, take a mule trip, and go flight-seeing.

Although there are many Canyon overlooks accessible by car that offer a view, some roads are closed to private vehicles. Once you park you can walk the trail or take the free shuttle to Canyon View Information Plaza visitors' facililty.
