Truth to tell, though, there's not that much impressive scenery before reaching the Grand Canyon on the train. The view is of scrubby prairie and high-desert vistas, dried gulleys, then pine forest scenery as the train nears its destination.
Eagle-eyed passengers may spot elk, mule deer, antelope, and prairie dogs. Scenery along the route also shelters bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes, jackrabbits, skunks, hawks, turkeys, roadrunners, and bald eagles.
Fruit, pastries, coffee, soda, and juice are provided buffet-style to dome car passengers en route to the Grand Canyon. Sparkling wine, snacks, and entertainment are served on the return trip.
Seats are somewhat narrow and close together in the Grand Canyon Train dome car, so do travel in it with someone you like.
