On a sunny summer's day we left the town of St. Andrews to embark on the Quoddy Loop.

This two-nation land-and-sea route leads from New Brunswick, Canada through Maine and back to Canada again, then across Passamaquoddy Bay — an inlet on the western arm of the Bay of Fundy — to Deer Island. From Deer Island, a second ferry completes the loop and returns travelers to the mainland.

Many who start their journey on the Quoddy Loop in Canada make St. Stephen, known as Canada's Chocolate Town, their first stop. The Chocolate Museum tells the story of the Ganong brothers, who opened a candy-making factory in the town in the late 19th century that to this day manufactures chocolate.

The museum features hands-on exhibits, interactive displays showing modern chocolate production, historic chocolate boxes, and antique candy-making equipment. And there is chocolate to sample as well as hand-dipped chocolates to buy.
