A four-seasons resort in a picture-perfect town, pretty Mirror Lake Inn overlooks the lake of the same name and the high peaks of the Adirondack mountains beyond.
Over the years it's collected its fair share of awards, but they don't communicate how special this place is in the Olympic Village of Lake Placid.
Built in 1883 as a private home, the main building at the Mirror Lake Inn houses the lobby, lounge, spa, pool, main restaurant, and some guest rooms. Mahogany woodwork, stained glass windows, stone fireplaces, and a meandering layout give the inn a comfortable sense of place.
In total, there are seven buildings, 100 guest rooms, 31 suites, and three restaurants. Cell phones are not permitted in public areas, and the absence of those intrusions and poorly mannered children help visitors relax.
Romantic year round, but especially popular in three seasons, the Mirror Lake Inn is a cool mountain getaway in summer, with its own small private beach across the street.
The surroundings are resplendent in fall, when the trees that line the lake reveal their autumn colors. Come winter, the frozen lake sparkles in the sunlight and those who love the outdoors can ski, snowshoe, even go dog-sledding in the town where Olympic history was made.
