St. Croix USVI Adventures and Lodging
Where to Play and Stay

Name your outdoor pleasure -- and it's more than likely you can pursue it in St. Croix against a breath-takingly beautiful backdrop.

At the St. Croix Aquarium and Marine Education Center in Christiansted, a biologist discusses mating habits, species identification, and conservation tips regarding local marine animals during the half-hour tour.

The St. Croix taste tour introduces you to restaurants that serve traditional island food such as conch fritters and Johnny cakes. Thirsty? Pause for refreshment at the Cruzan Rum Distillery in Frederiksted and join its free tour.

Exhilarating eco-tours include a scenic hike to the tide pools at Annaly Bay, where you get to swim and sunbathe after the trek. Bike and horseback riding tours across the island are also offered.

Feeling snappish? Circle St. Croix on a four-hour photography tour that travels from Point Udall to the rain forest, and capture sugar mills and sunsets on film.

A bounty on land, on sea, and in the stores...

Other land activities include tennis, croquet, and golfing on three different courses. And don't forget shopping: You can take home up to $1,200 per person duty free. Stores parade a selection of jewelry, perfumes, crystal, china, and leather goods.

If water is your element, there's one place you must not miss: Swimmers, snorkelers, and scuba divers have been known to compare Buck Island to heaven. A beautiful beach at first glance, Buck Island National Monument is even lovelier below the surface. Much of the island is surrounded by a massive, 30-foot-tall underwater barrier reef. A snorkel trail crosses an underseas garden that shelters an infinite variety of coral formations and tropical fish. There are even floats for tired swimmers to rest upon.

A holiday for the senses, St. Croix also invites water lovers to sail, fish for big game, water-ski, and windsurf off its pristine beaches. Can't do it all on one visit? That's reason enough to come back soon.

Vacation headquarters for the very, very lucky....

Which stretch of scenic St. Croix shall become your vacation headquarters? Choose between beachfront, hillside, and in-town lodging: Top-rated luxury resorts, intimate guest houses, quaint B&Bs, historic inns, and private villas all extend a warm West-Indian welcome to travelers.
