Booking a Restaurant Reservation Online
You can make airline reservations online. You can make hotel reservations online. You can make car-rental reservations online. And now, you can now make restaurant reservations online in real time.
Tavern on the Green, one of New York City's best-known restaurants, recently began accepting real-time online reservations for brunch, lunch, and dinner. In addition, the site allows visitors to tour Tavern's dining rooms, learn about the Central Park landmark's history, and see menus and the wine list.
To make a reservation, select the date and approximate time you'd like to dine at Tavern and say how many will be in your party. The next screen returns times available for that day and the following two. A credit card will be required to hold your reservations, and there is a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you fail to cancel within 24 hours of the reservation or are a no-show, expect to find a $25 cancellation fee (per person) on your next month's bill.
A Fine Setting for Romance
"Many people know Tavern on the Green as the quintessential place for a romantic dinner," notes Karen Bailey, the restaurant's Director of Public Relations. Its sparkling Crystal Room is a site that's inspired many marriage proposals.
While countless restaurants now have an online presence, some are little more than menu shovelware. Bailey adds, "Any restaurant site worth its salt provides basic information with menus, hours, private dining capabilities, etc. But Tavern is in a unique position to serve as an online expert in a number of fields, from wedding planning to holiday decorating. I wanted the site to be a vehicle for easy access to some of the knowledge as a way to thank people for their patronage of the restaurant."
Located at Central Park West and West 67th Street, Tavern on the Green has six dining rooms plus three outdoor gardens that stay open through October. The eatery serves until 11:30 pm nightly.
