How To Decide Where to Go on Vacation

By , About.com Guide

So many places, so little time. How can you pick a place to vacation together?
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 30 minutes
Here's How:
  1. Agree on a time when you can both focus on your upcoming trip.
  2. First thing to do when you sit down together: Decide on a budget.
  3. Then figure out how long you can get away.
  4. Choose whether to fly or drive. (Based on that, you'll also know whether you want to travel domestically or internationally.)
  5. Do you prefer a hot climate or a cool one?
  6. Mountains or beach?
  7. City or country?
  8. Large, full-service resort or private enclave?
  9. List outdoor activities you both enjoy or want to learn.
  10. Understand that you won't agree on everything.
  11. Based on the elements you do agree on, you'll have a profile of your ideal trip.
Tips:
  1. Bring a map or atlas to the table.
  2. Be frank about how you like to spend your free time.
  3. Keep in mind that you'll have many more vacations together after this one, so be willing to compromise. A little.
