Dearborn, Michigan is where Fair Lane, Ford's estate (at 56 rooms, it's the most modest of the four), Ford Motor Company headquarters, and the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village are all located. Set on nearly 100 acres, the latter two indoor/outdoor attractions chronicle the rise of the automobile and American ingenuity.
At Greenfield, Michigan visitors wander through recreated laboratories where inventors brainstormed. See where Edison developed the phonograph and light bulb, where Henry Ford jump-started the automobile industry, and where the Wright Brothers initiated flight.
In Detroit, Michigan music lovers can visit the birthplace of the Motown sound. The Motown Historical Museum houses the original recording studio where hundreds of hits were first recorded. Its galleries display rare photos, vintage outfits, gold and platinum records, and other soulful memorabilia.
Civil War buffs come to Michigan to watch and participate in historical reenactments. Battle scenarios, brigade drills, a military ball, ladies programs, civilian scenarios, and period church services are often part of the schedule.
Military and civilian camps at the Annual Civil War Muster in Jackson, Michigan in August are open to the public all day except during battle. Events include an arts-and-crafts show, bluegrass and acoustic-music festival, and the don't-duck-don't-miss Ladies' Iron Skillet and Rolling Pin Toss. Both authentic and modern camping facilities are available.
