Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is located in the northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, along the shores of Lake Michigan's East Grand Traverse Bay. The Michigan resort features a total of 660 guest rooms. Accommodations include suites with sweeping views in the 17-story tower adjoining the main resort; hotel suites; and condominiums with one, two, and three bedrooms.
In addition to the 54 holes of championship golf that challenge players at Grand Traverse Resort, the property has recently become home to the Orvis Michigan Fly-Fishing School. The variety of rivers that surround the resort, including the Manistee and Boardman, flow with wild brook, rainbow, and brown trout.
In warm weather, the Grand Traverse Bay shoreline tempts swimmers and sunbathers to use the water to sail or jet-ski. All equipment can be rented.
Those who consider shopping a competitive sport will find much to browse in the resort's 20,000 square-foot Gallery of Shops, located on the lobby level of the Tower. Among the exceptional Michigan regional outposts is an American Spoon Foods shop.
Grand Traverse can produce all the trimmings necessary for a destination wedding: a scenic locale; first-class resort amenities; and the culinary efforts of a cadre of chefs and patissieres. The resort features a number of indoor and outdoor venues on its picturesque Northwoods property to hold a wedding. Exterior sites range from the private beach and scenic golf courses to the resort's plaza and pool area.
As Michigan's largest full-service resort, Grand Traverse even offers brides and grooms the dedicated expertise of its own bridal specialist: Becky Savage is a 16-year veteran of the hotel. She can recommend floral, photography, music, and video vendors in the area who are familiar with the resort. Each wedding party also has a banquet manager assigned to the affair.
The Michigan resort reserves a honeymoon suite for couples who marry there. Their parents are entitled to receive twenty percent off the standard rate for an extra night or two following the ceremony.
To help brides, grooms, family, and other members of the wedding party prepare for the big event, The Spa at Grand Traverse Resort offers a variety of personal services. A Bridal Package includes a half-hour massage, pedicure, manicure, and make-up application and costs approximately $130 per person.
Those who don't burn off nervous energy on the golf course can turn to the resort's 100,000-square foot spa. It features a weight room, cardio room, aerobics programs, two indoor swimming pools, four whirlpools, saunas, and five indoor tennis courts.
Guests awaiting spa treatments unwind in cozy Adirondack chairs by a fireplace before a sports massage or one of the Spa's indigenous cherry treatments. The Cherry Honey Glow and Cherry Massage were both developed as a tribute to the sweet, red fruit grown around Traverse City, dubbed the "Cherry Capital of the World."
Traverse City's annual National Cherry Festival in July is one of the nation's top festivals, and the area is also home to several award-winning wineries. No wonder so many couples say this can be an intoxicatingly sweet place to vacation.
