Only in Orlando - Part IV

By , About.com Guide

RESTAURANTS

Seafood is fresh, plentiful, and delicious down South. Adventurous diners will want to try Floribbean cuisine, a tangy taste of the tropics created by adding Caribbean spices and fresh citrus to the ocean's bounty. Fans of Italian fare will find many places to twirl pasta.

NIGHTLIFE

Pleasure Island: (407-934-7781) and Church Street Station (407-422-2434) contain multiple clubs where one admission fee is good for entry to all. To find out who's performing during your stay, call the main numbers in early August.

CHURCH STREET STATION

Cheyenne Saloon and Opera House: Live country and western music and line dancing rouses the crowd. Order a Flaming Hurricane (a blend of rum and fruit punch) and take the glass home as a souvenir.

The Orchid Ballroom: This romantic spot invites couples to sit and listen or get up on the elevated floor and dance to live rock 'n' roll music from the 1950's to today's hits.

Rosie O'Grady's: Dance the Charleston, applaud the Can-Can girls, or kick up your heels to the sounds of Rosie O'Grady's Dixieland Good Time Jazz Band.

DOWNTOWN ORLANDO

Pinkie Lee's Jazz & Southern Cuisine: (118 East Jefferson Street, 407-872-7740) Hear fine traditional New Orleans-style jazz at this new supper club near Church Street Station. The repertoire celebrates the South's rich musical history. The menu, complete with down-home southern fried chicken, captures its flavor.

Dekko's: (46 North Orange Avenue, 407-648-8727) This high-energy dance club features state-of-the-art sound and lights. Built in 1921, the renovated theater has two dance floors, live music, and features top pop performers. Michael Jordan and Wesley Snipes have both been seen here working up a sweat.

PLEASURE ISLAND

The clubs, restaurants, midway, shops, and multi-plex theater here come alive when the sun goes down. Every evening there's a countdown to midnight, when New Year's Eve is celebrated with a storm of fireworks and confetti in a roisterous street party. Visitors must be 18 or older unless accompanied by a parent.

The Neon Armadillo: This country and western hot spot pours ice-cold beers for aficionados of steel-guitar music and traditional line dancing.

8TRAX: Slip back to the days when the sounds of Donna Summer, Grand Funk Railroad, and Isaac Hayes topped the charts. If disco tantalizes, hustle over to 8TRAX.

The Rock N Roll Beach Club: This place rocks with classic hits from the 50's, 60's, and 70's, depending on who takes the stage that night.

Adventurers Club: Is there someone watching you-or is it just all those shrunken heads, masks, and mounted animal heads hanging on the wall? The decor evokes a safari explorers' club, and surprises lurk behind each corner. A 1930's-style radio murder mystery is part of the entertainment. The waiters perform-and so can you.

The Pleasure Island Jazz Company: Designed as the definitive place for straight-away jazz and blues.

The Comedy Warehouse: This club showcases comedians and improvisational performers.
