The Doral Golf Resort and Spa features 99 championship holes that challenge players at six courses. These glorious, world-class courses cover 18 miles of fairways and have more than 400 sand bunkers. Best known is the spectacular Blue Monster, 6,939-yard-long site of the annual Doral Ryder Open and perennially listed as one of America's 100 Greatest Courses by a leading golf magazine.
Want your good golf game to become greater? At the Doral Golf Learning Center, full swing, short game, course management, and mental attitude inspire players to surpass their personal best. The four-level Doral Pro Shop is the largest in the world, and much of the apparel the enormous store carries is exclusive to the resort. Every year a fashionable new line debuts.
If you're tennis players, it's also a place to and improve your game. The resort's 15-court tennis center was designed by Arthur Ashe Jr. This part of Florida, with its rolling green hills, is horse country. So guests at the Doral Resort and Country Club can choose mounts from the 24-stable Equestrian Center. Later, don bikinis and trunks to cool off in the Olympic-size pool.
Another unique advantage guests at the Doral Golf Resort andSpa enjoy is having full privileges at the neighboring Doral Saturnia International Spa Resort, a state-of-the-art health and fitness complex, and at the Doral Ocean Beach Resort on Miami Beach (25 minutes away). The latter's Aqua Sports Center arranges sailing, waterskiing, scuba diving, jet-skiing, and windsurfing activities and lessons for guests. Free transportation is provided between the three properties.
What an appetite you'll have after all these activitiesand what delicious choices you can make! Provare Italian and Sandpiper restaurants are on site. At the Doral Saturnia the spa cuisine is as healthy as one can order. The Doral Ocean Beach Resort houses the incomparable Alfredo the Original of Rome, which, from its 18th-floor aerie, overlooks Miami and serves heavenly risotto and fettucine prepared the original Alfredo way. The pasta fuels guests for evening, when you can dance and romance until the wee hours.
The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club
Luxurious and leisurely, The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club is a tropical enclave on Florida's Intracoastal Waterway. Located in Aventura between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, it's only 20 minutes away from either city's airport. Yet some guests prefer to arrive by helicopter, and this world-class resort (with its own helipad) accommodates their needs with the same ease as those of visitors who come by yacht or limousine or private car.
Turnberry contains world-class golf and tennis facilities, a yacht club and marina, a beach club that fronts the Atlantic, four swimming pools, a European-style spa, and 11 restaurants and lounges. Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, and Mary Joe Fernandez have all trained at Tennis at Turnberry. Programs and packages for honeymooners ranging in skill from beginner to tournament finalist are customized to suit individual needs. There are 24 courts (9 clay, 15 plexi-pave), and all but one are lit for night play.
With gracefully contoured bunkers, sand traps, and water hazards, Turnberry's two PGA-rated Robert Trent Jones 18-hole championship golf courses provide ample challenges. The South Course (7,003 yards; par-72) has an 18th-hole island green. The North Course extends 6,323 yards and is rated par-70. Under the leadership of Turnberry's director of golf , the staff conducts teaching clinics and individual instruction. Three pro shops feature golf fashions, equipment, and accessories.
Swedish massage, Swiss showers, Finnish saunas, and a Turkish steam room are among the international treatments available at The Spa at Turnberry . Spa equipment includes Nautilus, StairMaster, and Cybex machines. Among the personal services provided are hairstyling, makeovers, manicures, and pedicures. To ensure guests stay on their toes, there's even a course in rollerblading.
Red-tile roofs and bougainvillea bring beauty to Turnberry's 300 acres. Grand deluxe Mediterranean-style rooms all have a private balcony overlooking either a golf course or pool garden. With three telephones per room, the plush, oversize sofa is a perfect place to take a callunless one is engaged watching the 26" remote-control color TV with videocassette player. Turnberry's marble bathrooms are havens of luxury. Each features a mini color TV, marble bathtub with whirlpool, separate shower, and fluffy bathrobes to enwrap the clean and refreshed.
