In addition to giving private lessons and fast-paced clinics, the 10-person pro staff arranges round-robins and matched sets on 21 tennis cours (including 10 soft Hydrocourts). Camps are available for advanced and beginning players.
More Fun in the Sun
At the Watersports Center facing the Gulf, guests can arrange to sail a Hobie Cat or Windsurfer, ride an Aqua Bike or try a surf kayak. Beside The Colony's beautiful stretch of beach, there's a heated freshwater pool.
Fitness classes are taught by certified instructors and classes change monthly. Step classes, Pilates, yoga, aerobics, Latin Cardio, and beach power walks are among the offerings. Afterwards, men's and women's spas beckon with steam and dry saunas, relaxing whirlpools, and a variety of massages and pampering treatments.
From a table at the Colony Restaurant, diners may enjoy magnificent sunsets of the Gulf of Mexico through floor-to-ceiling windows. The Contemporary Continental cuisine features local seafood, prime meats, and fresh organic vegetables and fruits. Dinner-menu items include a Longboat Key shrimp and jumbo lump crabmeat martini or fresh Florida stone crab claws to start. Tasty entrees include jerked sea bass, crispy lobster tails, and braised pork osso buco. The Colony also has an award-winning wine cellar and Cruvinet for single tastings.
A Room of One's Own
Each unit in the all-villa suite Colony Beach & Tennis Resort has a living room, dining room and one or two bedrooms and baths, and a Euro-style kitchen. Most also feature a private balcony. The master bath with whirlpool and steam shower can serve as a mini-spa -- just the thing to soothe you after a rousing day of tennis.
